So… You’re on Facebook, and so are 1.7 billion of your closest friends. You’re in good company. You, like many others, enjoy scrolling through your news feed to see what your friends are up to. You click “like” on pages, post pictures, fill out your profile to completion with all of your basic information, you update your relationship status to “it’s complicated”, you even started broadcasting your life in real time via Facebooks newest passion project Facebook Live. On a side note, I believe FB Live is a fad, it doesn’t matter how many times you say fetch, it’s not going to happen, and Yes, I just made a Mean Girls reference.

Marketers can use this tool to create extremely targeted advertising campaigns based on 1,500+ categories that you voluntarily share with Facebook. Well, you give most of it to Facebook, the rest of it they buy from 3rd party data providers. By the way, these 3rd party data providers share your credit card purchases, your smartphone’s user ID, and even your desktop’s IP address.
If you have some time make sure you check out the full Facebook targeting list. If you don’t have time to dig into the full list, don’t sweat it, I’ve listed the five creepiest things Facebook knows about you below.
Remember these are just 5 of 1,500+ creepy things…
So how do you stop it? You have two options:
